My name is Annie, and I don't have any nicknames. I grew up in Burnsville MN but I now currently live in Roseville MN, soon to move back to Saint Paul to live with my parents. I am in my fourth year of college at the University of Minnesota, should be graduating this year but with changing majors and schools that wasn't an option, but thats okay because I enjoy school and going another year is exciting to me. I am studying Family Social Science and Family Violence prevention, once I graduate I am planning on going to graduate school to gain my Masters in Social Work and hopefully then work with children and families who have experienced trauma.
Currently I work at Lunds, a grocery store, as a cashier and deli worker. I have been there for over 5 years, it's not the most exciting job but I get along well with the people there and its close to home, when I move back to my parents house it's only 5 blocks away which is very nice. I just applied for an internship for the fall working with soon-to-be adopted children so hopefully that's what I will be doing when we get back!
When I have time I enjoy reading, especially books by Karen Kingsbury, but most of all playing the piano: I have been playing since I was 6 years old, and I am now 21 so its been awhile and I still enjoy it very much. For the past few years I have been part of the worship band for the youth program at my church, playing the keyboard and singing. I love hanging out with friends, and also playing rockband on the wii :).
Likes and dislikes. I dislike seafood and peas. I love chicken and oatmeal. I just got my second tattoo last Wednesday, so I now have one on my wrist and one on my foot. I played Lacrosse in high school at Minnehaha Academy, and would love to still be playing it but time doesn't allow it, but it started me on being a runner. I can't run for a long time but I try and do a 5k every month. I just did one in Febuary and actually was able to donate my old running shoes to a program that brings shoes to Haiti so kids can go to school so that was exciting. Oh, and I also love middle-schoolers! Crazy I know, but I love 'em!
I have been on a few missions trips before. My favorite was to Guatemala my sophomore year of high school, we spent a week staying with local families and working with the local schools and rebuilding the local church. I have also been many places stateside and also to Canada, most of those trips where alongside Youthworks. I have been a student and a leader on missions trips.
I have been feeling the need to get out and help around the world and I believe that God led me to apply for this trip and I couldn't feel more certain about this summer! I am very excited to see what God has in store for each and every one of us this summer and to see how He works in Haiti.
